ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATIONWalk To End Alzheimer's & The Longest Day
Through the Alzheimer's Association, I have found an outlet for my great desire of enacting change for Alzheimer's patients. I have raised over $2,000 in funds for my personal team, the A-Team. I have raised funds through and participated in the yearly Miami Walk. The Longest Day fundraiser provides the opportunity to blend my passions of advocating for Alzheimer's and homemade baking. My grandfather, an Alzheimer's warrior himself and a self-pronounced dessert critic, is my biggest supporter in this endeavor.
My interest has only piqued since my participation in the college course, Neuroscience 100, at the University of Miami. I now have a more thorough understanding of the disease and wish to pursue this field in my collegiate studies. I hope to make a difference. |
Food Donation
For as long as I can remember, my mother and I would throw on our aprons (as seen above, around 10 years later) to prepare warm casserole meals for Camillus House in Downtown Miami. Initially, I associated these cooking-filled days with a scrumptious baked ziti I helped cook. As I grew older I realized that at the same time I ate with my family, a disadvantaged person was also relishing in the same home-cooked meal. This has been deeply ingrained in me over my life and serves as a reminder to allocate to people what they innately deserve. I enjoy this and look forward to it every month. |
After School Care
Throughout my time in high school, I have found a liking in returning to my primary school to tutor and teach my faith to the children enrolled in the after school care program. I look forward to weekly uniting with the children to help decipher division problems, confront cursive writing, and cheerily learn new prayers. Returning to the institution that provided me with a strong academic, spiritual, and charitable foundation is fulfilling in many aspects. Not only do I have the opportunity to connect with the younger generation, but I also am able to foster a deeper understanding of my faith and background. |
